Gathering Audio Data
The SDPRS team meticulously analyzes all of its case study audio data in a timely manner. The team uses audio software programs such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools and Audacity. We also look for correlations between data and historical relevance. It is preferred to use headphones and/or external speakers when listening to the following audio files.
Audio Types
EVP: Voices not heard by the naked ear at the time of recording but captured on recording devices.
ENP: Noises or sounds not heard by the naked ear at the time of recording but captured on recording devices.
AVP: Disembodied vocalizations or sounds heard by the naked ear at the time of recording and captured on recording devices.
ANP: Noises or sounds heard by the naked ear at the time of recording and captured on recording devices.
ITC: Instrumental Trans Communication is an experimental methodology where alleged spirit voices, words and phrases are captured in real-time on technological devices, such as televisions, telephones, answering machines and other recording devices.
Audio Classifications
Class A: vocalizations that are clear and understood by the majority; may not need external speakers or headphones
Class B: vocalizations that are sometimes understood; may need use of external speakers or headphones for clarity
Class C: undecipherable words or phrases, often in whisper form; almost always need external speakers and/or headphones
Class R: a word or phrase that is understood when the audio is reversed; the SDPRS has documented this occurrence a few times

USS Hornet - Engine Room - AVP Capture - 2019
On the overnight paranormal investigation, our investigation group heard and captured the disembodied vocalization of Stella, the ghost dog (black lab) who belonged to one of the volunteers. You can distinctly hear her bark and whine. This AVP was captured in the engine room area. Listen at :01 -:02 mark; best to wear headphones. AVP is repeated at end of clip.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe - Majordomo Room ITC Capture - 2015
The RBVA was known as having prized horses and other ranch animals. In this clip, a male response of “3” is heard answering Nicole’s question, “How many horses are here?” Additionally, a male response of “2” is heard answering Ali’s question, “Do you have any Appaloosa horses?” The ITC answers are clear, profound and historically relevant.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe - Master Bedroom ITC Capture - 2016
During our "Spirits of the Adobe" tours, the group met inside the master bedroom for a group spirit box session. About halfway through, Nicole asks, "Besides us here, how many of you are with us?" A clear female response of "3" is heard right after.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe - Majordomo Room ITC Capture - 2015
Maria Antonia was the daugther to Cave Johnson and Ysidora Bandini de Couts. Along with her husband Chalmers Scott, she resided at the RBVA for some time. During the past eight years of researching this historic location, we have documented evidence of Maria in ethereal form. In this ITC capture, Nicole addresses Maria and receives an affirmative response. Along with other resident energies at the RBVA, we have come to recognize her unique voice as she communicates with guests quite often.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe - Majordomo Room ITC Capture - 2014
On December 13, 2014, the 9:30 pm tour group had an amazing collective experience with Juan Gonzalez, one of the adobe’s spirits. As we were conducting a group ITC session, we received some interesting vocalizations coming through our device in Spanish, such as “Si” and “Bien.” After Ali said, “You can use this device to tell us your name,” a male vocalization came through saying the name, “Juan.” During later case studies at the RBVA, Juan has documented his last name as being Gonzalez. During the time of Ysidora Bandini de Couts' ownership of the property, she did employ Native American children. One of those children was a child named "Juan" whose father owned the nearby Rancho Guajome at one point. The team is conducting further research as to the origins of Juan Gonzalez.
Cosmopolitan Hotel - Wine Room - 2010
This ITC was captured in 2010 on a case study of the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Old Town, San Diego. We were utilizing an older spirit box while conducting an ITC experiment in the wine room. The device was scanning the FM bands at a high rate, when all of a sudden, the device STOPPED scanning of its own volition, and landed on mysterious Native American chanting. Note that the device will NOT stop scanning on its own, as you need to push a button in order for it to do so. Thus, we do not have an explanation for the chanting. Did the device stop on a radio station playing Native American Chanting at 2:00 am? Maybe, but highly unlikely. If not, where did this chanting come from? Considering this occurred in Old Town, San Diego, with a high Native American influence, we find this result very mysterious. Is it truly a paranormal phenomenon?
Berkeley Ferryboat - Boiler Room AVP Capture - 2010
This AVP (audible voice phenomenon) or disembodied voice was heard by all of us at the time of recording while investigating the Berkeley Ferryboat during the 2010 Maritime Ghost Conference. OC Soul Searchers, Pacific Paranormal Investigations and SDPRS were all situated in the ferry’s boiler room when we heard the disembodied voice of a female child emanating from the decks above. Two team members thus investigated the above decks to either see if a family accidentally came aboard or was outside in the adjacent parking lot. Upon our inspection, no living children were present. This clip is explanatory as you will hear the child answer "mommy" to the question, "What's your mom's name?" Again, the response was heard by the naked ear at the time classifying it as an AVP not an EVP.
Lincoln Theater EVP Capture - Dressing Room - 2009
This Class A EVP was obtained during an investigation of the Lincoln Theater in Decatur, Illinois during Troy Taylor’s Haunted America Conference. American Spectral Society's Nicole Tito and Lisa Krick were present with me in the dressing rooms at the time of this capture. You will hear Nicole ask, "What are your going to perform tonight?" "What are you getting ready for?" A Class A EVP of "magic" occurs in between the two questions. This is one of the clearest EVP captures we have ever heard.
Preston Castle - Kitchen ITC Capture - 2017
The Preston School of Industry (Preston Castle) is one of the most majestic buildings in California, boasting state landmark status. The SDPRS team has developed a solid rapport with the Preston Castle Foundation. Nicole Strickland has been a featured presenter at its annual Preston Castle Benefit Paracon for two years. During a 2017 investigation, Nicole and Ali captured some profound spirit box data regarding Anna Corbin, a beloved head castle housekeeper who was tragically murdered on the premises in the 1950s. In the following clip, you will hear Ali sensitively address Anna's tragic demise. Interestingly, at the :04 - :05 mark, it sounds like "Nicole" is said via the spirit box. A response of "yes" at the :18 mark is heard when Ali says, "...a woman was found deceased in that room; is that correct?" Then, at the :28 - :29 mark, a response of "Corbin" is heard after Ali asks, "Can you please verify what her name was?"
RMS Queen Mary - After Engine Room - 2014
This particular EVP capture is provided courtesy of a former crew member. In this clip, you will hear him ask, "John are you back here?" referring to a beloved male spirit aboard the ship who tragically lost his life on July 10, 1966 in the starboard shaft alley area of the aft engine room. Out of respect for John and his surviving family members, his last name will not be revealed. After the above question, you will hear a Class A male response of "yes." Note the inhalation of breath right before the response.
RMS Queen Mary - Former First and Third Class Pool - 2008
This Class A EVP was captured during a case study of the former first and third class pool. There are many ethereal energies associated with this location aboard the ship. Perhaps, the most popular is a little girl by the name of Jackie who frequents other areas of the liner. Resembling a close physical match to actress Shirley Temple, Jackie is around 6 or 7 years of age who loves to interact with guests via conversation, singing or dancing. SDPRS' Nicole Strickland has developed a strong bond with Jackie over the past many years and has learned that she loves to sing Ring Around the Rosy, London Bridges and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star among others. Note that Jackie's origins still remain elusive. In this clip, you will hear Nicole sing the lyrics to Ring Around the Rosy, but purposely leave out the last word in the main verse, ("down") as an experiment to see if any spirits sing it. This is exactly what happened as you will hear a young female sing the word "down." This is one of the most compelling EVP captures in SDPRS' collection of Queen Mary audio evidence.
RMS Queen Mary - Former First and Third Class Pool - 2008
During a group tour of the former first and third class pool, Nicole captured an EVP of a young child laughing. Please note that no children were on the tour that day. This child sounds strikingly similar to Jackie, one of the most popular spirits aboard the legendary Queen Mary.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe - Majordomo Room ITC Capture - 2015
The following ITC capture was obtained during a "Spirits of the Adobe" tour. Nicole addresses spirit Juan Gonzalez, asking him if he was friends with the Native Americans. A male vocalization occurs moments after Nicole's inquiry saying "Still am." Guest reaction to the spirit box vocalization is left in to demonstrate excitement over the capture. This particular piece of data is interesting considering the RBVA's strong Native American influence.
Star of India - Captain's Quarters EVP Capture - 2010
The team has conducted a few case studies aboard the Star of India (Euterpe), which is part of the Maritime Museum of San Diego. While preparing for the evening's investigation, the team captured a disheartening Class A EVP of a male saying "help me." Is this the voice of John Campbell, a stowaway found during the vessel's sailing days? Upon being found by crew members, John Campbell was put to work and tragically lost his life after a fall from the masts. As with all the ethereal energies we come across, we hope that John has found peace.
RMS Queen Mary - Former First and Third Class Pool - ENP - 2008
The following ENP (electronic noise phenomenon) was captured in 2008 during a tour of the former first and third class pool. You will hear the tour guide discussing the alleged vortex in the women's changing rooms. Interestingly, you will also hear what sounds like splashing water sounds as if someone's swimming in the pool. When the ship sailed into Long Beach on December 9, 1967, the pool's water was drained. Thus, this ENP (not heard by the naked ear at the time of recording) is most likely a residual phenomenon from the vessel's sailing days.
RMS Queen Mary - R Deck Forward Rope Locker - ITC Capture - 2014
SDPRS' Nicole Strickland has been a frequent guest on the late-night weekend paranormal investigation tours aboard the Queen Mary. While stationed in R Deck Forward's rope locker area, tour host Matt conducted an ITC session utilizing the P-SB7 spirit box. After he inquired (Give us that number; we have to move on...) as to which world war the ship was involved in, a male vocalization emanates via the box answering "2" as in World War II (the correct answer). This particular capture indicated an intelligent spirit interaction.
RMS Queen Mary - Former First and Third Class Pool - EVP Capture - 2011
Along with the American Paranormal Research Association and Rob Wlodarski, the SDPRS team conducted a case study in the former first and third class pool in the summer months of 2011. Both Nicole Strickland and an APRA member inquired as to the real name of Jackie, the popular spirit child aboard the ship. Nicole's question, "Is your real name Jackie?" preceded "Or, is it a name people call you?" After the latter inquiry, an EVP of a little girl was captured answering "My name is Jackie/Jacqueline." The vocalization sounds strikingly similar to Jackie's vocal intonations.
RMS Queen Mary - Former First and Third Class Pool - EVP Capture - 2011
During a case study of the former first and third class pool, Nicole addressed the beloved spirit, Jackie, by saying "Jacqueline." Right after, an EVP of a young girl sounding strikingly similar to Jackie's voice repeats Nicole by saying "Jacqueline."
RMS Queen Mary - After Engine Room - EVP Capture 2009
While on the "Haunted Encounters" tour in the after engine room, the tour guide asked if anyone would like to share a ghostly encounter. Nicole described one of her most profound experiences in the starboard shaft alley area as she proceeded through watertight door #13. She went on to elaborate how her purse was tugged by unseen hands. When this event occurred, she was the last person to walk through door #13; thus, no one was trailing behind her. She says, "... when my purse was tugged and there was no one behind me, so..." You then hear the tour guide say, "...so there are, people do experience..." when an EVP occurs of a male vocalization saying, "I'm / I am down here." After years of researching this particular location within the ship, Nicole strongly feels that this is the voice of JP, one of the liner's most beloved ethereal energies who tragically passed away on July 10, 1966 in the after engine room.
RMS Queen Mary - A167 Stateroom - EVP Capture 2009
On one of Nicole's overnight sojourns aboard the ship in 2009, she decided to conduct a burst EVP session in her A167 stateroom at approximately 2:00 am. As she sat comfortably on the bed, she proceeded to ask some questions to the resident energies. At one point, Nicole visually saw a dark mass enter through the cabin's entrance door. Upon this encounter, Nicole went on to inquire as to who entered her room when a male EVP occurred saying what sounds like "Michael" or "Micah." This is intriguing as a personal experience precedes a captured piece of audio data. For best results, listen with headphones or an external speaker.
Undisclosed Restaurant -Anaheim, CA - EVP Capture - 2011
The SDPRS team was invited to conduct an overnight case study of a spiritually active restaurant in Anaheim, California. In this particular audio file, you will hear a young child say what sounds like, "I want to go play..." Note that this is an EVP so it wasn't heard by the investigators at the time of recording. This piece of data correlates to this restaurant's history as a family used to reside on the land in earlier times.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe - Majordomo Room - ITC Conversation - 2017
Since the SDPRS team has spent eight years conducting its "Spirits of the Adobe" tours and private research at the RBVA, it theorizes that many of the location's resident spirit energies have developed a rapport with team investigators. Both Luis Machado and Herman Diaz are documented individuals pertaining to the locale's rich history. In this particular audio file, you will hear Nicole and Ali's conversation with the two men.
This file is divided into three parts:
1. Nicole asks, "Is that Luis my friend?" At :04 seconds, a male answers with "yes." Guests repeat the word "yes" acknowledging that they heard it.
2. Nicole asks, "How are you doing Luis my friend?" A male vocalization answers "bien" (good) at :12. Ali says "bien" right after as confirmation. Nicole then says, "awesome; us, too; nice to talk with you." Another male vocalization says "yes" right after at :18.
3. Nicole then asks, "Is your friend Herman Diaz with you?" A different male vocalization occurs at :24 saying "Hi."
Segments are repeated for listening pleasure. Note that a historical photograph hangs on the wall in the majordomo room depicting both Luis and Herman Diaz.
